How It WorksNice Article on page 20 in the July edition of Popular Science Magazine on the gear-less hub called NuVinci. Nice diagrams and explanation on how it works. Better yet, ride it and experience it yourself.

NuVinci and the Mac

Leopard1 SmI am a bit of Mac fan. Since I have been using the Mac I have been so much more productive. But what has this to do with the NuVinci blog? Last week was the Apple World Wide Developer Conference in San Francisco. Most of it was all about the new Mac Operating System called Leopard which will be launched in October. Sad souls like me dream about this and follow all the blogs and web sites for the latest pics of the new OS. Apple, who loves to keep everything secret, tries anything to prevent any pictures of unreleased products. So it was a surprise when Wired magazine posted screen shots of the new Leopard. These screen shots where picked up by almost every major Apple technology site. But what caught my eye was what was on the picture. I could swear that this is a screen shot of Tony Ellsworh’s incredible “Ride” with the equally incredible NuVinci hub clearly visible. Agree or am I seeing things?

Extra Dimensional Magic

Image002There is a lively conversation going on at Bike Pirates right now about the NuVinci hub and other drive-trains. “Twinkelfart” set it all off with his summation of the hub. One member says “Planetary gears are basically magic, so this is like… extra dimensional magic”. Some interesting points and perspectives there, although there are some errors about the weight, which is substantial lighter than the 12 Lbs mentioned there. Check it out.

NuVinci hub scores high in AD bicycle Test

May 3, 2007 on 3:16 pm | In News, In the Press, Bicycles, Batavus | No Comments

Blog Wp-Content Uploads 2007 04 Logo-3I know, I know. I am late blogging about this very good test for the Batavus Ouverture and it’s NuVinci hub. But unfortunately there are other things aswell to take care of, besides blogging. Success does not come by itself.
In an excellent AD supplement, full of information about cycling, tours and routes there was the annual AD test and NuVinci scored high once again. Allow me a crude translation of the bits which talk about the Ouverture bicycle and specifically the NuVinci hub. The test was conducted by a panel of cyclist who tested ten bikes during a full day.

LEV overview in Bicycle Retailer News

I hear that NuVinci is mentioned on page 33 of the current edition of BRAIN. It is an in-depth news story on the excellent LEV conference which took place in Taiwan the week before the bicycle show. If you are active in two wheel LEV’s or Pedalec’s this conference of Hannes Neupert is a must. Highly recommended. We see the LEV market as an important and promising segment for the NuVinci technology. The logic is the same as on a normal bicycle. The NuVinci CVT allows a motor or rider to always perform at its most optimum and efficient rpm. For an LEV this translates in a combination of lower battery drain, higher top speed and or better acceleration.

Now, that “maakt mij vrolijk”

Alpe Dhuez Bocht 13I don’t know what made me happier. Seeing Peter Winnen win the Queens Stage on Alpe dHuez in his first Tour de France -I believe in ‘81-, or reading his article on the Batavus Adagio NuVInci in the NRC Handelsblad last night.
Peter Winnen is a cycling legend in Holland after winning the white jersey, winning three time the Queens (mountain) stage in the Tour de France and finishing third in the Tour of 83 in the GC. Turn 13 of Alpe d’Duez is even named after him.

These days he has an important following as a columnist in magazines and the NRC newspaper. The later is perhaps the real thinking mens newspaper in Holland. Perhaps it no coincidence he is their sports columnist and bicycle writer. Besided that he is the author of four books.

So what about the Batavus Adagio NuVinci?

VeloNews Zinn Report: This results in a surprising level of efficiency for a wide variety of applications besides bicycles.

Pict0064.1ATC NuVinci got a lot of attention at the Sea Otter event last week. Hundreds of people riding and testing it and familiarizing themselves with the advantages of riding a NuVinci CVT equiped bike. Tech guru Lennard Zinn of VeloNews also tested it briefly and wrote an interesting short story about it in his VeloNews column. It has some interesting background facts on the inventor of the core technology: Don Miller. Have a read at VeloNews.

MTN Bike Riders also showed some nice pictures of the ATC NuVinci booth on their blog. Enjoy.

Visual Top LogoSee NuVinci on Swiss TV last week. You have to understand German, but even if you don’t it is still good to see. One segment of the program is about bicycle innovations and the Simpel bike with the NuVinci hub is an important part. Philip Douglas, the founder of Simpel does the talking. http://www.konsum.tv/content.cfm?rub=3
